Just a Dream...

So I am totally feeling this song right now:
Nelly - Just a Dream

Maybe it's because I've always been a Nelly fan. (You're missing out if you have never heard my version of Hot in Herre.) I think it's because he is from St. Louis, and that is kind of where my roots are with my dad's side of the family. Anyway...definitely am feeling this one :)

I have a day or so at home this weekend, then a wedding in Paducah! Kendall and I went to get a gift tonight, ended up dropping a few $$$ at the MAC counter, then a few more $$$ at Sephora. Luckily tomorrow is pay day. I told her I better look freakin' gorgeous tomorrow. I picked up some fluid eyeliner, lash primer, new mascara...my eyelashes seriously look LONG. And I got some lip tint and gloss. I'm still debating on switching to Bare Minerals for my foundation -- thoughts from any of you on that?

Hope you all are living the dream this week :)

I Spoke to Soon

So when I said, "I woke up with a sore throat, so I hope I'm not coming down with something," in my last post...well....I jinxed myself. Kept getting gradually worse every day, with lots of sinus pressure and nasal congestion, which eventually settled into my chest with a lovely cough. I caved and went to the doctor yesterday, so after 2 days on a Z Pack the outlook for the rest of the week is looking much better. Hopefully I can branch out of the chicken noodle soup diet, too.

I really do need to start taking better care of myself. I signed up for Race for the Cure on Oct. 16, so hopefully that will motivate me to get a little exercise in the next 3 weeks. Anyone have any tips for balancing healthy lifestyle with crazy work schedules? I need a little sanity!

Life Update

Hello again, friends! I'm going to try to be better about blogging in the near future, but in the meantime, here is my life update:

I worked about 58.5 hours last week (yes, including a couple hours on Labor Day). I had a lot of dinners at the office, and my fridge had a pitiful half a green pepper, less than 1/4 bottle of wine, and some apples. As a result, my Mint.com account is telling me that I've exceeded my budget for fast food. No kidding, Sherlock. I've been doing better this week so far -- steak and vegetables for dinner, scrambled eggs, turkey sandwiches for lunch -- so hopefully I'm getting back on track! (I woke up with a sore throat yesterday, though, so let's hope I'm not coming down with something.)

I'm happy to say that our conference and board meeting were a success -- especially our Friday night banquet. We had an AWESOME band out of Nashville. (If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for a good band and live music.) They're called 'Burning Las Vegas' and you can check out some videos of them here. If anyone gets the hankering to head down to B.B. King's in Nashville on a Wednesday night, let me know and I'm in.

In the midst of my crazy work hours, I had some conversations along the lines of:
MJ: Is it just me or do these folders smell bad?
E: Yes! I was smelling that! They smell like...
MJ: Toejam. (Uh, yeah. Where did I come up with that?!?!)

G: That's really bothering you, isn't it?
MJ: Yeah, it's just me being anive retental. (Or maybe anal retentive? Maybe?)

C: Remember when McDonald's didn't take debit cards?
MJ: No.

How do you like them apples? (Speaking of apples...I hit up the orchard last weekend with my family and have pics -- with the intent of blogging about them -- so hopefully I can get those up!)

Hope you're all doing well!

Simply,
MJ

Scene from the Weekend

I haven't had much time to post lately (out celebrating my roommate's birthday last night and worked til 10 tonight)! But I wanted to post a scene from last weekend. Mostly because I'm totally in love with the new dress I got! It was one of those occasions where I spent the whole afternoon searching, and as I was leaving the mall I looked through the rack of sale dresses at Macy's one more time. Low and behold, this guy magically appeared! Originally $98, I got a pretty sweet deal...I think it was like 40% off, then maybe 10% more with Macy's card, then corporate was taking like 20% off your Macy's bill, so I ended up spending right around $40 for it!!! Granted, I literally had like 40 minutes to shower, shave, fix my hair, apply make up, get dressed and accessorize because of my mall detour. And for those of you who know my routine, a 30 minute shower and shave alone is a feat. But I pulled it off, believe it or not! The dress was slightly big, but I "MacGyvered" the straps a bit and made it work.

Anyway, this pic was from dinner Saturday for Lindsey's birthday (a friend of my roommate -- the girl next to me). We ended up having all these August birthday's at the table, so don't you know we had a round of somberos and tequila shots!

So how late into the season is too late to wear this dress again?
